There is increasing evidence in the US that households are opting to go for quality rather than quantity when it comes to their televisions. Back in 2011, the number of televisions in the US stood at an estimated 115.9 million; often more televisions than people in the household.

The figure fell one year later in 2012, with Nielsen calculating that numbers were down to 114.7 million. This was largely attributed to a number of causes; the economy was having an increasingly negative effect causing people to downsize and sell their televisions, and the ‘Baby Boomers’ just after the war are slowly moving out of the target demographic for television.

However, one of the other explanations for the decline in the numbers of televisions is that homeowners are choosing to forget the 90s ideal of having televisions in every room, and instead focus their budgets and energies on having the very highest quality television that they can find in their living space. Smart TVs with internet connectivity, TiVo boxes, games consoles and streaming apps have all contributed to televisions being the multifunctional behemoth of the entertainment world, and people are now choosing to invest their money into one high-quality television rather than many sub-standard ones.

One of the ways in which people are kitting out their living rooms with the highest-quality entertainment-ware is by buying a TV lift cabinet for their television. These cabinets create a safe and stylish place to store a television, both when it is in use, and when it is not being viewed. The cabinets come in a range of contemporary and traditional designs which will integrate wonderfully into any space, and they help to make the television, with all its high-definition and 3d capabilities, the focal point of any room.

Many are also buying some incredible gadgets for their television sets, to enhance their capabilities and make them more accessible to all family members. Many motorized TV cabinets have discreet storage spaces within the unit, so a number of appliances can be added. 3d televisions obviously require a safe place to store 3d glasses, whilst many of the more high-tech games consoles these days can be controlled with physical actions and gestures that require a conveniently placed sensor. With a world of streaming content boxes, Blu-ray players, new-generation games consoles and other gadgets to choose from, it is little wonder that, despite less televisions being in US homes, television is still the king of entertainment.
