With some parts of the US basking in almost-summer temperatures this past week, what better time to start thinking about spending more time outdoors enjoying the warmer weather? If your yard has been neglected during the winter months, it’s likely that it will need a little TLC before you can start to enjoy the fresh air, longer days and warmer nights.
The good news is that transforming your yard from drab to fab doesn’t have to come with an eye-watering price tag or require the services of a professional team of landscape gardeners.
Read on for our 7 ways to transform your yard on a budget.
#1: Get painting
Wooden decking and fencing can start to look weathered and tired after the ravages of winter. A new coat of pain is a quick, easy and super low cost way to brighten up the space and have it look clean, fresh and inviting. Classic white is always a good choice but don’t be afraid to mix it up a little and try modern sage or grey.
#2: Invest in a few new shrubs
You don’t need to have a huge chunk of turf to be able to plant a few shrubs. Adding some leafy green plants or shrubs in tubs or planters is an easy way to spruce up your yard. You could also consider planting herbs in pots or hanging baskets of flowers. If space is at a premium, attach a trellis to a wall or fence.
#3: Install new lighting
Lighting can really make your deck come alive and doesn’t have to cost the earth. Try stringing some fairy lights around the wall or fence or across the verandah. You can also pick up cheap outdoor lighting and solar lighting at home goods stores.
#4: Change cushions and seat pads
If you have seating outside, swapping in new cushions or seat pads will make your entire dining seat or outdoor sofa look like new, without having to replace the whole thing. If you’re handy with a sewing machine (or know someone who is) you can even make your own slip covers at little to no cost.
#5: Invest in an outdoor TV
If you really want to transform your yard into an oasis you can enjoy all summer long, why not add one of our outdoor TV lift cabinet designs?
